7formation was appointed by Mace Group to deliver a series of upgrade works across all three schools within the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. Working in close collaboration, the project involved transformative improvements across a range of teaching, support, and communal spaces.
The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group encompasses Selby College, Wakefield College, and Castleford College, and provides education and training to over 8,000 students annually. These institutions serve a wide demographic, offering courses to school leavers aged 16–18, adult learners, and apprentices, as well as providing higher education programmes. Located across North and West Yorkshire, the colleges play a vital role in delivering accessible, high-quality learning. 7formation’s works supported this mission by enhancing environments that are critical to both staff and student success.

Castleford College
At Castleford College, we created two brand-new office spaces designed to enhance staff collaboration and comfort. These modern work environments now provide dedicated zones for focused work, meetings, and day-to-day operations, supporting increased productivity across the team.
As part of the wider transformation, a new ‘Student Central’ hub was established, bringing together vital student support services into one centralised area. This was complemented by the creation of a new internal corridor to improve circulation throughout the school. The works included significant structural alterations to the existing building, ensuring smoother student flow between departments and better overall connectivity within the school environment.
Wakefield College
In Wakefield, we carried out a full overhaul of the college’s ventilation system across multiple floors. This critical infrastructure improvement ensures enhanced air quality, climate control, and long-term energy efficiency. The project also included the installation of a new suspended ceiling throughout, incorporating a full upgrade to an energy-saving LED lighting system to modernise and brighten internal learning environments.
In parallel, vital fire safety enhancements were delivered to ensure full compliance and improve occupant protection. These works included the creation of a new dedicated fire escape route, improving the safety and evacuation efficiency across the building. The result is a safer, brighter, and more comfortable environment for students and staff.

Selby College
Within our works in Selby, we completed a transformative upgrade to the science block at the college, including the creation of state-of-the-art laboratories. Central to the project was the introduction of dedicated decarbonisation labs, equipped with advanced mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems tailored for sustainability-focused learning. These new facilities provide cutting-edge environments that support both practical teaching and innovation in low-carbon technologies.
Alongside the laboratory works, communal areas across the school site were thoughtfully refurbished. This included improvements to key corridors within our project’s scope, enhancing both the flow and overall aesthetic of the school. The result is a refreshed and cohesive environment that complements the academic spaces and elevates the day-to-day experience for students and staff alike.
