Smithers Purslow – QEGS

In 2023, severe flooding struck Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Horncastle, causing widespread damage to key areas including classrooms, corridors, and specialist facilities. The flood, part of a larger weather event, rendered significant parts of the school unusable.

Gateley Smithers Purslow appointed 7formation to carry out urgent refurbishment works to restore the school to full operation. Over a five-week period, 7formation delivered a comprehensive program of repairs and upgrades. Flood-damaged materials were removed and replaced, and new, durable flooring was installed throughout. All damaged doors were upgraded, with fire-rated replacements installed where required to enhance safety. In the catering classroom, flood-ruined appliances and cupboards were replaced with robust, high-quality units. New skirting was also added to improve durability and visual appeal.

To future-proof the site, moisture-resistant materials and improved sealing were introduced in vulnerable areas. Despite the scale and urgency of the work, the project was completed on time and within budget, enabling a swift reopening and providing a safe, functional learning environment for students and staff.
